The Canucks announced on Monday that Horvat has been traded to the Islanders for a package that includes forward Anthony Beauvillier, prospect Aatu Raty and a conditional 2023 first-round pick.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the team has acquired F Anthony Beauvillier, C Aatu Raty, and a protected 2023 1st round draft pick from the New York Islanders in exchange for C Bo Horvat.

Horvat ends his Canucks’ career with 420 points scored in 621 games played. He served as the team captain for the past four seasons.
A Horvat trade was expected to come at some point before the March 3 trade deadline. The pending UFA could not come to terms on an extension with Vancouver, leading the Canucks to shift towards moving their captain out.
Now, Horvat heads to Long Island, where GM Lou Lamoriello is looking to get the Islanders to the postseason in the final year of his contract.
A major component of the Canucks’ trade partner in a deal for Horvat was the expectation of an extension coming with it. While nothing has been announced or even rumored, given the package they sent to the Canucks, it’s likely that locking Horvat in long-term is the next move for the Islanders.

Bo Horvat trade details
- Canucks receive: F Anthony Beauvillier, F Aatu Raty, 2023 conditional 1st-round pick
- Islanders receive: F Bo Horvat
The Islanders received solely Horvat in the deal. In exchange, the Canucks got Beauvillier, Raty and a conditional 2023 first-round selection.
Horvat is in the middle of a career year. He has scored more points than anyone on the Islanders this year, immediately giving their offense a boost. His 31 goals rank in the top-10 this season in the NHL and his 54 points are in the top-25.
The center is also one of the league’s premier faceoff takers. Horvat is averaging a 56% win percentage when taking draws, which is fourth in the league behind only Patrice Bergeron, Anze Kopitar (57%) and new teammate Jean-Gabriel Pageau (56.3%), among skaters to take more than 900 faceoffs this season.
Beauvillier has been in trade rumors for a number of seasons now on Long Island. A scoring winger hasn’t been consistent in his time with the Islanders, and his defensive deficiencies have not gelled well in an Islanders’ system that emphasizes play in their own zone.
This year, Beauvillier has nine goals and 20 points in 49 games with the Islanders. He has hit at least 10 goals in a season every year for the last five seasons, and is well on his way in doing so this year.
Raty was considered the Islanders’ top prospect, and now jumps near the top of the Canucks’ list. The Finnish forward made his NHL debut earlier this year and skated in 12 games for New York, recording two goals.
The first-round pick is top-12 protected, meaning that if the pick finishes in the top-12 of this year’s draft, the Islanders keep the 2023 selection and the Canucks receive the Islanders’ 2024 first-round pick.
