The press conference prior to the European Super Cup match between Manchester City and Sevilla revealed some bad news for Pep Guardiola‘s side.
The Spanish coach has confirmed that Kevin de Bruyne has suffered a major injury and will not be available for the remainder of 2023.
“He has a serious injury. Now we have to decide on whether he has to have surgery or not,” Guardiola told journalists.
De Bruyne returned from injury as a substitute in the Community Shield against Arsenal. However, while taking part in City’s Premier League opener against Burnley last Friday, the Belgian started but lasted just 23 minutes on the pitch.
The 32-year-old midfielder was injured in last season’s Champions League final against Inter, and it now looks as though City will have to deal with absence for the foreseeable future.
