Manchester United‘s Antony has claimed that he is being stoned and crucified in an interview with SBT.
The winger has faced allegations of domestic and sexual violence towards three of his ex-girlfriends, with Sao Paulo police said to be investigating the claims.
In the interview, the Brazilian opened up on how the circumstances have made him feel as he broke down on camera and stressed his innocence.
It is the latest in a string of mistreatment of women accusations levied at those linekd with Man United, with Ryan Giggs and Mason Greenwood notably occurring previously.
“Of course my career is not over,” a crying Antony said. “These are difficult times. My mom always tells me that the trees that bear fruit are the ones that people always want to stone.
“I am someone who came out of nowhere, I had many difficulties and I am living one of the hardest moments of my life, which is to be accused of something I have not done.
“It’s hard when you… At first you become a reference for so many people and, for so many lies, you end up being stoned by people, by everyone. I look at my mom, my family, and I see that’s not what my mom really knows who I am. I look at those people who have followed me since I was little, suffering with me.”
It has been a challenging year for the 23-year-old since his move from Ajax to Erik ten Hag‘s side.
He came with a hefty price tag but has struggled to deliver the performances expected of him by supporters and critics, and now has the allegations to contend with too.
“It’s not easy to be crucified and with my mouth shut,” Antony continued. “Don’t you think I would have liked to say something earlier and defend myself? Show people who I really am? I would have liked that.”
Gabriela Cavallin responds
The ex-girlfriend who first reported Antony to the police for the alleged assaults responded to the interview via Instagram.
She clearly did not buy the Brazilian’s words and called on the pair of them to hand over their phones to the investigators before claiming that Antony had deleted messages of their conversations.
“My mobile phone is here, ready to be handed over to the case delegate, a neutral person, voluntarily, no problem,” she said on her social media.
“How about he does the same? It’s easy to get a private expert who only works for him to do what he wants…
“Now let him recover all the messages he deleted. That you [Antony] sent me as a single view? Will he? Are we going to hand over both mobile phones? To see who’s lying? I’ll start with me.”
