Erik ten Hag praised his Manchester United side for coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Leeds United in the Premier League on Wednesday, but the Dutchman was critical of the way his players made a slow start to each half.
“If you start each half the way we did, it’s unacceptable. You concede two, goals and then you have to run behind the facts. And that’s really frustrating, and unacceptable,” he said.
Wilfried Gnonto scored in the first minute of the game, and Leeds double their lead three minutes into the second half when Raphael Varane put the ball into his own goal.
Marcus Rashford halved the deficit just after the hour-mark though and substitute Jadon Sancho added a 70th-minute equaliser for ‘The Red Devils’, who have only lost one of their last 16 competitive matches.
Despite his initial criticism, the United boss was pleased with his team’s response: “I have to make compliments to the team, the way they are resilient, the way they fight back. And I think we make, yeah, some really good football, create chances. Finally also we finished and scored two great goals.”
