Christopher Vivell, Chelsea‘s new technical director, is working against the clock to strengthen the Blues in January and he has started with the defence by signing former RB Leipzig player Benoit Badiashile (Limoges, 26-3-2001).
The Monaco centre-back, capped twice by France, has moved to Stamford Bridge in a transfer that, according to Fabrizio Romano, has been agreed for between 35 and 40 million euros.
Experience despite his youth
At 21 years of age, he has already accumulated extensive experience in the elite.
He has made 135 appearances for Monaco since Thierry Henry gave him his Ligue 1 debut on 11 November 2018 at the age of 17 years, 7 months and 16 days old.
Badiashile, of Congolese descent, is left-footed and is used to playing in both a back three and a back four.
He also stands out for his great height as his 194 centimetres make him a real unit in the air, both defensively and offensively.
Despite being a defender, he has scored six goals and distributed three assists since his debut in the elite.
He has also won 75 per cent of the aerial duels he has been involved in, which puts him in the top five in Ligue 1.
Brother in Spain
His surname may be familiar to Spanish football fans as his brother, Loc Badiashile, was in goal for DUX Internacional de Madrid last season and signed for Burgos this summer. However, he has a shoulder injury and has yet to make his debut.
Benoit Badiashile becomes the third centre-back Chelsea have signed this season.
In the summer, both Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli – 35 million) and Wesley Fofana (Leicester – 80.4 million) arrived at Stamford Bridge.
“I am very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m very excited to start playing for this club. I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world,” said Badiashile.
