Jurgen Klopp was very upset with the refereeing in Liverpool’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brentford.
The defeat came in dramatic circumstances as there were ruled-out goals for both sides and the clinching goal for Brentford came in controversial circumstances as Liverpool thought Bryan Mbuemo had pushed Ibrahima Konate over in the build-up.
When asked whether he had spoken to the match officials about the issue, Klopp told beIN Sports that he had.
“Yeah, but actually that’s exactly the same as I would talk to my microwave, you get no response, really, it’s always the same,” he said.
“Before the season they gave us advice that the players have to be careful in these moments because the refs will have an eye on it.
“You see in these games pretty much everything is allowed, it’s always on the edge and they are using it.”
Jurgen Klopp vs Paul Tierney
Speaking further about the referee Paul Tierney, Klopp criticised him specifically.
“I really have no idea what his problem with me, you need an objective ref,” he added.
“I don’t expect anything in our favour, I just think a foul is a foul, holding is holding and pushing is pushing.”
The defeat leaves Liverpool four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who also have a game in hand.
