LaLiga published a video in which president Javier Tebas refers to the ‘Negreira Case’ after reports emerged claiming that Barcelona allegedly paid 1.4 million euros to Technical Committee of Referees vice-president, Enriquez Negreira.
Tebas claimed that LaLiga can’t impose any sanctions to Barcelona for the time being and stressed that they could only take action after investigation into the matter is over.
“From LaLiga we are going to respect the investigation that the Prosecutor’s Office is going to hold and, if it decides to file the appropriate complaint, we will have to appear as a private prosecutor,” Tebas said.
“It is not possible [for sanctions] to exist because five years have passed between 2018 and 2023 and this type of sanctions prescribe after three years.
“Now the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the facts that happened and, if there is a possible crime of corruption between individuals in match-fixing and sporting terms, we will see how this investigation ends.”
Tebas insisted that he is going to ask the members of the Refereeing Committee of the Spanish league “whether Mr. Negreira had any interference or intervened in any designation”.
“In conclusion, these things cannot happen in Spanish football neither aesthetically nor ethically,” admitted Tebas.
