The recent Premier League fixture between Tottenham and Aston Villa, produced more than just a win for the visitors and a continued positive streak for Spanish coach Unai Emery. It also marked the reunion between the two goalkeepers, Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez and Hugo Lloris after both played against one another in the final at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The two greeted each other in the tunnel shortly before the start of the match. Given the absence of the Argentine from Villa‘s starting XI, it was before heading out to the dugout when Dibu approached Lloris and went to shake hands with his fellow keeper who greeted him in the same way.
Many are reading far too much into the exchange though, claiming that the Frenchman looked angry after they shook hands. It is far more probable that, given he was lined up in the tunnel and ready to go onto the pitch, he was in a state of concentration on the game.
The match ended with a win for Aston Villa, and Emery‘s side moved into 2023 on the right foot.
