The Yankees added RHP Clayton Beeter and C Agustin Ramirez to the 40-man roster ahead of the Rule 5 Draft, which takes place Dec. 6 in Nashville, Tenn.
Players who signed at 18 or earlier have to be on a team’s 40-man roster in the span of five seasons or else they can be picked by other MLB clubs via the Rule 5 Draft. For those who inked at 19 or older, the timeline is four seasons.
In the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft, a club pays $100,000 to select a player. The player is offered back to the former team for $50,000 if he does not remain on the 26-man roster for the entirety of the season.
Beeter (16) and Ramirez (24) are among the Yankees’ top 30 prospects, according to MLB.com.
New York acquired Beeter, now 25, from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Aug. 2, 2022, trade for Joey Gallo. The Dodgers selected Beeter from Texas Tech with the 2020 MLB Draft’s No. 66 overall pick.
Beeter, a member of the American League’s 2023 Futures Game roster, split this past season with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 131.2 IP over games (26 starts) at the respective levels, Beeter was 9-7 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.
Ramirez, 22, signed with the Yankees from the Dominican Republic for $400,000 in the 2018-19 international period. It was the highest bonus to a Dominican catcher during that window.
The 2023 season saw him spend time with the Low-A Tampa Tarpons, High-A Hudson Valley Renegades and Double-A Somerset. In 114 games across the three stops, Ramirez slashed .271/.364/.455 with 18 home runs and 69 RBI.
