The Yankees have really struggled.
They have been scuffling the bottom of their lineup is horrible.
Yankee infielders in the month of June before yesterday had an ops of 506.
Ok. Juan Soto Aaron Judge spectacular.
No duh.
The starting rotation has generally been good questions with the bullpen but the Yankees were cold heading into last night and that is the context for all.
What was a fascinating affair in Queens, Gerrit Cole on the mound for the Yankees making his second start off the il and he got his s rocked, ok. Four home runs off Garrett Cole two from third baseman Mark Vientos, one from Harrison Bader and one from Brandon Nimmo Mets take a commanding lead.
Aaron Judge hits a grand slam in the eighth inning to trim the lead to two but the Mets hang on for a 9 to 7 win.
Uh looking back at this bar score, the thing that jumps out to me is not four home runs, it’s zero strikeouts.
That is like we’ve seen Garrett Cole, you know, give up some, some homers that’s even at his best, you know, he can, he can give them up but four walks in zero strikeouts for Garrett Cole and I understand he’s, he’s, he’s a little rusty.
That’s fine.
I’m not, I’m not saying he’s doomed.
I’m not saying he’s the worst pitcher in baseball.
Whatever, any version of Garrett Cole getting zero strikeouts in a major league start is like, very kind of, kind of shocking to, to look at.
I mean, honestly, the fact that he even made it through four innings feels like it feels like an achievement.
To be honest, all that matters is that Garrett Cole when he picks up the ball for his first postseason start, looks like Garrett Cole last night was a great reminder that he is not Garrett Cole yet.
That’s not a surprise, right?
And so it Mike Petrello tweeted, it is not unconcern that he’s throwing 93.
Yeah, I just, it will be concerning to me if he’s throwing 93 a month from now and he has no strikes out strikeouts a month from now.
