El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge tight end Kaleb Edwards is headed to the SEC. Edwards announced his commitment to Alabama on Tuesday afternoon, joining a class that ranks No. 2 nationally in the Class of 2025 team rankings.
WHAT KALEB EDWARDS SAYS ABOUT ALABAMA
“Coach (Kalen) DeBoer wins everywhere he goes. Just seeing him in a program that already has a history of winning, it is going to be great for him and the program.”
“I think coach (Bryan) Ellis is super personal. You can go up to him and talk to him. He’s very smart and knows exactly what he is doing. We were talking about how he has an offensive coordinator background, so he doesn’t just teach you the little things. He knows the whole game of football, the schemes and what the quarterbacks are looking for and how to get tight ends the ball.”
“Same thing with coach Ellis, I have always had a great connection with coach (Nick) Sheridan. He’s a great coach, a great guy and my parents like him (too).”
“(The offense) is definitely super appealing. (Alabama) had a player run practice when I was there and I got to see the tight ends. Like half the plays were flexed out and running slants and other receiving type of routes. It was great.”
WHO ELSE WAS IN THE MIX
He took six official visits, to Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Texas, UCLA and Washington. But the buzz started trending towards the Tide, where Kalen DeBoer and Nick Sheridan built a strong rapport with Edwards, going back to their time at Washington, after his official visit. Oregon got the last visit, but this was seemingly pointing to the Tide by the time he left Tuscaloosa.
WHERE KALEB EDWARDS RANKS AS A RECRUIT
Edwards is a four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 119 overall player in the country, the No. 6 tight end nationally and the No. 10 player in the state of California. The composite ranks him as the No. 159 overall player in the country, the No. 8 tight end nationally and the No. 14 recruit in California’s 2025 class. He has been selected to play in the 2025 All-America Bowl in San Antonio.
HOW KALEB EDWARDS FITS WITH ALABAMA
The commitment from Edwards gives the Tide their second top ten recruit from the Golden State in the last week after Dijon Lee picked the Tide and it gives Alabama their third top ten player in California in 2025 and fourth in the top 15, matching Texas A&M for the most in the state.
WHAT WE THINK ABOUT KALEB EDWARDS
“”Edwards is on the short list when talking about the top tight ends in the ’25 class. He’s the ultimate box checker and one of those rare players who does everything well and it’s really hard to find a discernible weakness in his game. At 6-5, 235 pounds, he has a prototype tight end frame. He’s not just a hybrid big receiver but a legitimate tight end who can make plays in the passing game, both short, intermediate and down the field and is also an excellent in-line blocker as well. He has strong hands and does a nice job catching the ball through contact and can get easy separation down the field from linebackers and safeties. He runs well, has plenty of length and excellent body control. He was one of the standouts at the All-American Bowl Combine in San Antonio last January where he looked smooth in the position drills, clocked 19.64 MPH on the GPS and had an 82” wingspan. He can make contested catches jumping over smaller defensive backs, shows a burst getting off the line and is a solid route runner who can easily get in and out of his breaks. He doesn’t fight the ball, which allows him to quickly get up the field and does a nice job making defenders miss after the catch. Throw in the multi-sport background that we always look for as Edwards is a talented basketball player who averaged a near double-double last season and you have one heck of a prospect. He’s currently rated the No. 119 player nationally in the Top247, the No. 6 tight end and the No. 10 player in the state. “ssuming he stays healthy and continues to develop, Edwards looks like a sure fire multi-year starter for the Tide and a high round NFL Draft pick.” — Greg Biggins, national recruiting analyst
