Gleyber Torres may be the latest Yankees player to be bit by the injury bug.
The second baseman left Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning with right groin tightness after legging out an infield single that sparked a three-run inning. He was evaluated by a team physician and is not expected to undergo further imaging, the team announced.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone also seemed to downplay the injury afterward,
“It didn’t seem too significant but was feeling it in that groin area,” Boone said.
When asked if Torres could be in the lineup on Saturday, Boone said, “we’ll see.”
Torres has been dealing with a groin issue for several weeks, citing it as the reason why he did not run out of the box in a game against the Mets on June 26.
The injury on Friday also occurred following a 38-minute rain delay, which could have played a factor.
Torres missed two games after the groin was brought up against the Mets, but part of that may have been due to his underperformance at the plate.
Since he returned, Torres is 7-for-24 with a home run and four RBI.
