Semifinal matchups for the AAC Tournament are set after the league’s top two seeds advanced in Friday’s quarterfinal action with No. 1 seed Houston blasting No. 9 seed East Carolina and No. 2 seed Memphis handling No. 7 seed UCF 81-76. The Tigers and Cougars could be on a collision course for Sunday’s title game, but they will need to get past upset-minded semifinal opponents first.
No. 4 seed Cincinnati crushed No. 5 seed Temple 84-54 in Friday’s second game and will take on the Cougars in Saturday’s first game. Slowing down Marcus Sasser will be a priority for the Bearcats after he scored 30 points for Houston in Friday’s game. The AAC Player of the Year has the Cougars in position to potentially claim a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament.
Huge individual performances also ruled the day for Memphis on Friday as senior stars Kendric Davis and DeAndre Williams combined for 68 points in the Tigers’ win over UCF. But now Memphis must face No. 3 seed Tulane after the Green Wave won both regular season meetings between the teams. Tulane advanced to the semifinals with an 82-76 win over No. 6 seed Wichita State.
