Aug. 11—ANDERSON — Indianapolis driver Andrew Teepe got to cross off another item from his bucket list by winning the Tom Wood Honda 150 on Saturday at Anderson Speedway.
Teepe has been close to winning a Champion Racing Association Street Stock feature at Anderson in the past but finally sealed the deal.
Dalton Conner, who won the Five Crown title for the division, led the first 46 circuits from the front row chased by Andrew Cook and Teepe.
The first of only three caution flags waved on Lap 9 when Austin Williams spun in Turn 4. On the restart, Teepe, Xavier King and Ryan Amonett all slipped past Cook.
Amonett brought out the second caution flag on Lap 41 when his car rolled to a stop with an engine problem, and seven laps later Dylan Hoppes brought out the final caution flag of the night for a spin in Turn 4.
On the restart, Teepe was able to take the lead from Conner coming off the second corner when the two drivers traded paint. Conner dropped back at the halfway break.
Teepe led the entire distance in the second half with Jason Thompson, Conner and King staging a spirited battle for the second spot.
At the checkers. it was Teepe scoring his second consecutive win, after a victory at Shady Bowl Speedway, winning by nine seconds over Thompson, Conner, King and Joe Muldoon.
“The car felt good all night,” Teepe said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “I didn’t mean to come down on Dalton. It was just hard racing.
“I’ve been trying to win here for years but only seemed to finish second or third but never a win.”
Thompson, who started 12th in the 18-car field, credited Conner for running him clean over the final 75 laps.
“We were pretty equal,” he said. “We struggled when we first got here today and changed to what I had.”
Thompson said he hadn’t raced at Anderson Speedway for six years.
“Happy to be here with a good finish,” he said.
Conner said he’s dating Thompson’s daughter, so he didn’t want to cause a wreck.
“I shouldn’t have lost the lead. I kind of screwed up,” he said. “I just wanted to finish decent.”
For the third time this season, Conner won an Anderson Modified division race, taking the lead from JP Crabtree on Lap 21 when the front runners were confronted by slower competitors.
Crabtree opted to take the high line around a slower car, and Conner was able to slip inside to take the top spot.
David McConnell, Andrew Evans and Jacob Owens rounded out the top five.
Morristown’s Jeff Marcum scored his second feature win in McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model competition, taking the lead on the fourth lap with a pass of early leader Chance Gross.
Ryder VanAlst came home second followed by Gross, Tanner Ballard and Mike Sargent.
