Aug. 20—For the second time this year, Dakoda Armstrong was in the right place at the right time to win a USAC Silver Crown event.
Earlier this year, Armstrong won the Silver Crown event at Madison International Speedway when CJ Leary had a flat tire while leading.
This past weekend seven-time Silver Crown champion Kody Swanson was in position to win at World Wide Technology Raceway when, with two laps to go, his ride went up in smoke.
Armstrong, running second at the time, was able to conserve enough fuel to win a Silver Crown race for the second time in his career.
Justin Grant came home in second, and Kaylee Bryson — driving for Sam Pierce Racing — came home in third.
Swanson is on pace to win his eighth Silver Crown title and leads Grant by 21 points.
Bryson is fifth in points, and former Kenyon Midget Series driver Trey Osborne is the leading rookie competitor and is currently eighth in points.
There has to be some concern among NASCAR officials following the Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
Corey LaJoie spun on the back straight, and his car got airborne.
LaJoie’s car skidded on the roof and flipped several times after making contact with the grass infield.
As was noted on the broadcast, NASCAR has invested a considerable amount of money in trying to develop a formula to keep the cars from flipping.
The roof flaps on LaJoie’s car didn’t open, and the car flipped without making any major contact with a competitor.
NASCAR did make the right decision by eliminating Austin Dillon from the playoffs after his controversial win at Richmond in which he took out the cars of Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final lap.
Dillon was allowed to keep the victory but was eliminated from the playoffs.
NASCAR also made the right decision by fining Logano $50,000 for the burnout along pit road following the Richmond race that could have resulted in injuries to people in the area.
