Aug. 23—Big Foot Disc Golf Shop recently held its 2024 Tour Series with the Road to the Run on Aug. 17 in McAlester, Oklahoma, at the Buffalo Run Disc Golf Course.
The Road to the Run was a one-day event as a warm up and fundraiser event before the 11th Annual Buffalo Run Tournament hosted by Lone Star Disc taking place Sept. 20 through 22 at McAlester’s Buffalo Run Disc Golf Course, which is located at the J.I. Stipe Center and among the Rotary Park at 801 N. 9th St.
Buffalo Run Disc Golf Tournament Director Mike Delloro said in a recent interview, “We are excited to make our return to McAlester Oklahoma to play on one of the finest disc golf courses in the state of Oklahoma.”
The upcoming tournament is an A-tier, PDGA-sanctioned singles tournament beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, with Flex Start, last card out at noon. Followed by a Suicide Prevention City Walk Event at the course from 4 to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, an Amatuer Long Distance Competition starts at 6 p.m., the winner takes all.
McAlester Tourism and the Buffalo Run Pro Disc Golf Course recently won their seventh RedBud Award presented by the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association (OTIA) in partnership with Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation.
“It’s my goal that McAlester is featured yearly with other top destinations, travel and tourism partners,” McAlester Tourism Manager Billy Sumner said in an interview earlier this year.
In addition, Buffalo Run Owner Matt House said he is grateful for local support and commitment to making Buffalo Run a premier disc golf course in Oklahoma, but also for the great partnerships with the City of McAlester, Sumner, and sponsors.
“The pride and passion that each of you have for the City of McAlester is truly commendable,” Delloro said.
To register for the Buffalo Run tournament, visit www.discgolfscene.com. Registrants must be current Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) members through 2024.
PDGA website PDGA divisions fall into basic classifications of Professional, Amateur, and Junior. Professionals compete for money, while Amateurs and Juniors compete for trophies and prizes.
Delloro said their will be players from all over the country here and even a players from four other countries.
