Liverpool have still yet to complete their first signing of the transfer window, which shuts on Friday – but two incoming deals could be quickly completed after Giorgi Mamardashvili had a medical and news emerged of interest in Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
Meanwhile the future of Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling is still unclear; he has been linked with Manchester United most recently but although reports say he’s open to a move to Old Trafford, talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have to take place first over his £300,000 a week wages and what happens to it if he moves on a lower salary elsewhere. Chelsea, meanwhile, want Jadon Sancho in a swap deal – and Victor Osimhen’s agent gave the Blues a boost by saying he’s not going to Saudi Arabia.
Elsewhere, there are reports and rumours surrounding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse and Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard, as more deals try to get crammed in before deadline day.

McKenna talks new signings
12:53 , Mike Jones
Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna spoke about his new signings Dara O’Shea and Jack Clarke saying: “Both are available [to face Wimbledon] and both are very different players.
“Both are two good additions, good ages with vast football experience.
“Both strengthen us in different areas of the pitch. Dara will bring leadership to our backline. Jack we know has got some real quality in the final third and he has goals and assists from the left-hand-side.”
Kepa undergoing Bournemouth medical
12:45 , Mike Jones
The Guardian are reporting that Kepa Arrizabalaga is undergoing at medical at Bournemouth ahead of a season-long loan from Chelsea.
In 2018, Kepa became the world’s most-expensive goalkeeper after Chelsea paid Athletic Bilbao £71.6m for him, signing him on a seven-year contract.
The deal is believed to be a straight loan, with Arrizabalaga set to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge so Chelsea retain his value.
Kieran McKenna on Armando Broja
12:38 , Mike Jones
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed the club are interested in signing Armando Broja.
“Armando is a player we have spoken to, I think that is pretty well known,” McKenna said. There are discussions going on with Chelsea at the moment. the discussions are ongoing so we will see if that is right for the club and player before Friday.”
Iling-Junior joins Bologna
12:30 , Mike Jones
Aston Villa have confirmed Samuel Iling-Junior has joined Bologna on loan just two months or so since joining the Premier League side.
The 20-year-old signed for Villa on July 1 from Juventus. Iling-Jr was part of Unai Emery’s squad in pre-season, taking part in the tour of the United States.
Juve sign Conceicao
12:22 , Mike Jones
Juventus have signed 21-year-old Francisco Conceicao on a season-long loan from Porto. The forward joins the Italian side after returning to Porto for a third stint this summer following his impressive display at Euro 2024.
With Juve signing a forward does that mean Federico Chiesa’s rumoured move to Liverpool is closer to happening? Perhaps.
Cristiano Ronaldo will ‘probably’ retire at Al Nassr ‘in two or three years’
12:15 , Mike Jones
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he plans to end his career with current club Al Nassr – but probably not for another two or three years.

Cancelo heading to Saudi
12:07 , Mike Jones
Joao Cancelo looks increasingly likely to be heading to Saudi Arabia after Manchester City have agreed to a sale to Al-Hilal. It is a deal believed to be worth around £21m.
The 30-year-old full back has been sent out on loan to Bayern Munich and Barcelona over the last couple of seasons after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola.
It is unlikely that he will be able to force his way back into the City starting XI so a move to Saudi may be the best option for him at present.
Cancelo has yet to agree personal terms but it seems as though Al-Hilal hope to sign him to a three-year deal.
Young Liverpool duo set for moves as Leverkusen want Tyler Morton
11:58 , Karl Matchett
Liverpool look likely to send out a couple more young players on loan before deadline day and one of the more notable ones would be Tyler Morton departing.
He has been linked with a permanent move too but Bayer Leverkusen apparently want him on loan – a huge opportunity to work with Xabi Alonso, if so, for the playmaking midfielder.
Sky report it could be a straight loan deal – Morton is one of the few players at the club capable of playing the holding midfield role, where Ryan Gravenberch has been stationed after they missed out on Martin Zubimendi.
Meanwhile Blackburn have agreed a loan deal for Reds left-back Owen Beck, who was also wanted by Celtic and QPR.
Quick hits transfer roundup: QPR, Brentford, Chelsea and more
11:43 , Karl Matchett
Here’s the latest on a few ongoing deals we know are, or could be, in the works:
-
Chelsea’s Tino Anjorin is in Italy to have a medical at Empoli over a permanent transfer
-
QPR made a loan bid for Scottish defender Max Johnston who plays for Sturm Graz, but now Reims want him too after his international call-up
-
Celtic have offered £5m for Auston Trusty, who is at Sheffield United – he joined for the same fee from Arsenal last year
-
Ajax want Wout Weghorst and are hoping to sign him from Burnley this week
-
Gustaf Lagerbielke has left Celtic for Twente on loan
-
Ameen Al-Dakhil is likely off to Stuttgart after Burnley accepted a £6.5m offer for the defender
Brentford reject Wissa bid
11:35 , Mike Jones
Sky Sports News are reporting that Brentford have rejected a £15m bid for striker Yoane Wissa from Nottingham Forest.
The Bees want to keep the 27-year-old forward who has started the season strongly especially with the possibility that Ivan Toney, who has not played for Brentford yet this season, may move away from the club before the end of the transfer window.
Wolves are also keeping an eye on the situation as they hope to bring in more reinforcements but it seems as though any move for Wissa will be difficult to get over the line.
Ipswich still in talks over Broja deal
11:28 , Karl Matchett
Armando Broja was due to join Ipswich this week but his medical revealed a potential problem.
Kieran McKenna has confirmed though that they are still in talks with Chelsea over the possible loan-to-buy deal which was pinned at £30m.
That would only be executed if Ipswich stayed up this season and clearly they see him as a key component of achieving that – still time for that deal to be resurrected, though perhaps the terms will change now.
Man United agree deal for Ugarte
11:20 , Karl Matchett
Manchester United are close to landing their main midfield target this summer after agreeing a £50.7m deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Manuel Ugarte.
The FA Cup winners will pay an initial €50m for the 23-year-old, with a possible extra €10m in add-ons, and he will undergo a medical.
Ugarte’s arrival will take their summer spending to around £200m after buying centre-backs Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, full-back Noussair Mazraoui and forward Joshua Zirkzee.

Newcastle boss rejects likelihood of signing two defenders
11:12 , Karl Matchett
Eddie Howe has been asked this morning about Newcastle signing a right-back and centre-back before the deadline and whether or not it’s likely:
“Probably not, no. I can understand the questions, but there’s always a level of respect that needs to be shown to the existing members of your squad,” he said.
“I respect every player we have in every position, so it’s not for me to answer. We’re trying to strengthen the group and make the right decisions and bring the right players in.”
Nottingham Forest make surprise bid for Yoane Wissa
11:05 , Karl Matchett
We mentioned earlier that Forest had been knocked back for Santiago Gimenez and that Eddie Nketiah might be Crystal Palace-bound – now the Tricky Trees have come in with a new offer for a third striker target.
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is the man they seemingly want now, with Wolves also keen say Sky Sports – but it’s Forest who have put in a £25m bid.
No response reported as of yet – meanwhile Forest winger Josh Bowler is set to head to Preston in the Championship. No confirmation if that’s a loan or permanent.
Chelsea land Penders ahead of next summer arrival
10:57 , Karl Matchett
Just what Chelsea needed – another goalkeeper! Mike Penders is in, signing from Genk and agreeing a deal through to 2032 – although he won’t officially join until next summer.
Regardless, the Blues have confirmed his impending arrival, with the 19-year-old staying in Belgium this term.
Sterling set for Chelsea talks amid Man United rumours – and Sancho swap possible
10:33 , Karl Matchett
Raheem Sterling wants talks with the Chelsea hierarchy over his contract situation before opening transfer discussions with any other club, reports the Telegraph.
His £300,000 a week deal guarantees him £40m over the three years left on his Chelsea deal, and he wants clarification on the Blues making up the difference if he moves on a lower salary elsewhere.
Manchester United are said to be interested and he “would consider” a move to Old Trafford, but swift talks would need to take place given the transfer window shuts this week.
Chelsea are keen on a swap deal involving Sterling and Man United’s out-of-favour winger Jadon Sancho, but there is no firm offer from United for the squad number-less Sterling at this point.
West Ham defender rejects Bundesliga move
10:25 , Karl Matchett
Nayef Aguerd has turned down the chance to move to an “unnamed club” in the German Bundesliga on loan.
The Moroccan is not in favour under Julen Lopetegui after the arrivals of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, but his big wages after signing for £28m two years ago is making him tough to shift. An offer from Saudi Arabia remains an option, the Guardian reports.
Kurt Zouma is also still set to move to the Saudi Pro League, while Max Cornet is available for sale but similarly has few takers due to the Hammers paying him big wages.
James Trafford wanted by Newcastle in loan-to-buy deal
10:15 , Karl Matchett
England’s third-or-fourth-choice stopper James Trafford is seen by many as an international goalkeeper in the making – and Newcastle United want to make sure he’s theirs for the long haul.
The Guardian report they have made a new bid for the Burnley man, having already been turned down for £15m.
A loan deal for this season with an obligation to buy him next summer is on the agenda this time, but one of those ahead of him for England – Nick Pope – is of course the senior stopper at St. James’ Park.
Meanwhile, Martin Dubravka is expected to leave, while new signing Odysseas Vlachodimos would also have to leave on loan if Trafford arrives.
Oxlade-Chamberlain could return to England
09:55 , Karl Matchett
Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been playing in Turkey with Besiktas most recently, but he has offers to leave the Super Lig reports national outlet Sports Digitale.
One is from the Premier League, with Brentford keen on signing him and having opened talks with Besiktas over the move.
However, it’s not certain he’ll return, as Eredivisie side Ajax also want him – such a move would reunite the 31-year-old with former Reds teammate Jordan Henderson, who is also in Netherlands these days.
Palace close to Nketiah deal
09:45 , Karl Matchett
Crystal Palace are set to be very busy in the last few days of the window – they look to be in pole position to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal, having almost agreed a deal for £25m plus £5m in add-ons.
The Athletic report they have moved ahead of Nottingham Forest, who had already bid for the striker earlier in the summer, as Oliver Glasner looks to set his squad for the season ahead.
With Forest also seeing Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez reject their offer, it suddenly leaves them short of a key position they wanted to upgrade this window.
Napoli set to sign Premier League midfield duo
09:37 , Karl Matchett
On that McTominay news – he’s not the only midfielder set to head to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Yesterday Man United agreed a fee of around £25m to sell the Scot to the Serie A side and his new sidekick in the middle might be a fellow current Premier League player…and fellow Scot.
Brighton are set to sell Billy Gilmour to the same side, a £12.5m deal agreed on Monday according to reports, having played 46 times in the league for the Seagulls since signing two years ago.
Rio Ferdinand questions Manchester United’s sale of Scott McTominay to Napoli
09:33 , Karl Matchett
Rio Ferdinand has questioned Manchester United’s decision to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli.
The Scotland midfielder is set to join the Serie A side after the two clubs reached agreement on a deal worth in the region of £25m.
The 27-year-old came through the Manchester United academy and has made more than 250 appearances since his senior debut in 2017.
While McTominay has not necessarily commanded a key role during his time at Old Trafford, the midfielder has regularly popped up with key goals, including in the comeback quarter-final victory over Liverpool en route to FA Cup success last year.
And citing the impact of some key Manchester United squad men of his era, Ferdinand suggested that Erik ten Hag and the club’s hierarchy were taking a “gamble” in selling the Scot.

Liverpool line up cut-price move for Federico Chiesa
09:25 , Karl Matchett
Liverpool are interested in Italy winger Federico Chiesa and are weighing up a move.
Chiesa is out of favour at Juventus and has been omitted from their squad for the first two games of the season by new manager Thiago Motta.
And Liverpool are considering whether to bring him in to strengthen their attacking options as they finally begin to add to the squad Arne Slot inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Man City agree £21.2m Cancelo deal
09:15 , Karl Matchett
One outgoing deal from the champions expected to be completed shortly:
Manchester City have agreed to sell full-back Joao Cancelo to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for £21.2m. The Portugal international is expected to agree personal terms and finalise his departure from City, 19 months after he last played for them. Cancelo spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Bayern Munich and was then borrowed by Barcelona last season.

Palace and Newcastle in ‘advanced talks’ over £70m Guehi
09:06 , Karl Matchett
The saga of the summer has been Marc Guehi and a possible move to Newcastle United – with Crystal Palace standing firm on their valuation.
Several bids from the Magpies have been knocked back but the Mail are now reporting “advanced talks” over a “near £70m” move are taking place and Guehi will decide his future now, with an agreement “close”.
Palace themselves are honing in on Maxence Lacroix, though reports say that is regardless of Guehi leaving.

A first of many stops at Chelsea rumours and news today: Victor Osimhen’s agent has given a massive boost to the Blues by making it clear they won’t be competing with Saudi Pro League teams to sign him.
“Osimhen is a Napoli player, with a contract recently renewed with mutual satisfaction,” Roberto Calenda’s statement said. “He made history and when there were major offers we always accepted the club’s decisions.
“As I said, he is not a package to be shipped far away to make room for new prophets.
“Victor was elected African footballer of the year, eighth at the Ballon d’Or, he still has so much to do in Europe. There needs to be respect and balance.”
With PSG seemingly out of the running, Chelsea may have a clear line to the Nigerian striker – while the i report he will “wait and see” which offers arrive.
Liverpool give medical to goalkeeper Mamardashvili
08:41 , Karl Matchett
We will start with a quick recap of yesterday evening’s news: Liverpool are set to make goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili the first signing of the Arne Slot era after agreeing a fee of €35m (£30m) for the Georgia international.
Mamardashvili is poised to undergo a medical as he completes his move from Valencia, where the 23-year-old will return on loan for the remainder of the season.
It will leave Alisson as Slot’s first-choice goalkeeper for this season after the Brazilian, whose contract expires in 2026, rejected the opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia.
Mamardashvili starred for Georgia at Euro 2024 as his nation reached the knockout stages and a deal has been reached now with the future in mind, although Alisson is also open to extending his stay.
