In his MLB debut on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies, Mets shortstop Luisangel Acuña notched his first major league hit with a single in the top of the fourth inning.
Leading off the inning with his team up 4-0 and facing former Met Taijuan Walker, Acuña grounded one up the middle for a single. The ball was retrieved by New York to be authenticated and given back to the 22-year-old after the game.
Prior to his hit, Acuña was 0-for-1 with a groundout in his first career at-bat. The prospect was batting ninth in the lineup and playing shortstop for Francisco Lindor, who did not start while dealing with lower back soreness.
Acuña was quickly erased on Jose Iglesias‘ double play.
