After taking a 98 mph sinker from Jeff Hoffman to the forearm in the eighth inning of the Mets’ 6-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, Starling Marte is getting X-rays done as a precaution, per manager Carlos Mendoza.
“He got him good,” Mendoza said, referring to the hit-by-pitch. “He’s getting X-rays right now. It’s precautionary and we’ll see what we got.”
Marte was in obvious pain after getting drilled as trainers took a look at him before he ultimately went to first base. After that, the outfielder stayed in the game defensively and finished the game.
The 35-year-old had a great day at the plate, reaching base four times and going 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI.
Marte missed almost two months earlier this season with a right knee bone bruise that landed him on the IL on June 23. He returned on Aug. 18 and in 83 games this year he is slashing .271/.320/.399 with seven home runs and 37 RBI.
