Michigan cornerback Will Johnson set a program record with his third career interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter of Saturday’s showdown against USC. Johnson stepped in front of a Miller Moss pass and ran 42 yards the other way to extend Michigan’s lead to 20-10 late in the third quarter.
Johnson was tied with Mike Sainristil, Lavert Hill, Brandon Watson, Lance Dottin and Thom Darden in the Michigan record books before the record-breaking interception. Johnson had an 86-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Wolverines’ season-opener against Fresno State that sealed a 30-10 win.
Johnson has nine career interceptions and counting. The standout defensive back recorded a career-high four picks last season after picking off three passes during the 2022 campaign as a freshman.
Johnson is CBS Sports No. 1 2025 NFL Draft prospect. He anchored a Michigan defense that was among the best in the country en route to a national title last season.
Per the CBS broadcast, Johnson was seen running into the Michigan locker room in the fourth quarter and will get an X-Ray.
