Ross Chastain has won the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.
Chastain earned his first win of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season and the fifth of his career. Chastain had to hold off a hard-charging William Byron in the closing laps. Byron even had a look at passing Chastain in the final corner, but did not have enough momentum to make the move.
“It’s a huge deal,” Chastain said to NBC Sports’ Marty Snider. “It’s what Cup racing is all about. It’s what Justin Marx bought into Trackhouse Racing with Pitbull to do stuff like this. … There were times after practice and qualifying I didn’t feel great. I felt we’ve been stronger here in the past. But our Kuboda Chevy was better as the rubber went down and the adjustments were great.”
Byron’s second-place finish is his third second-place finish of the season as well as his ninth top five and 15th top 10 finish.
NASCAR Cup Series Playoff drivers struggled throughout the race with Kyle Larson and Austin Cindric both dealing with flat tires and heavy damage.
