The AP All-America teams were announced on Tuesday, and each of the the No. 1 seeds in the 2023 NCAA Tournament bracket landed a first-team selection. Marcus Sasser (Houston), Zach Edey (Purdue), Jalen Wilson (Kansas) and Brandon Miller (Alabama) are first-team All-Americans, joining Trayce Jackson-Davis of Indiana. The Hoosiers are a 4-seed in the 2023 March Madness bracket, but Jackson-Davis’ selection shows that Indiana has the top-end talent to match any team in the 2023 NCAA bracket.
With a 5-2 record against top-25 teams, Indiana has also shown its ability for a deep run through the NCAA Tournament 2023. As the only program in the Midwest ever to cut down the nets, history is on the Hoosiers’ side. 2023 March Madness bracket games to watch
One 2023 March Madness matchup to keep an eye on: Iowa vs. Auburn in the Midwest region. Both schools lost top-five picks to last year’s NBA Draft, but their team philosophies remain in place. For Iowa, it’s an extremely efficient offense that relies on ball movement but also protects the rock. Iowa ranks third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio and overall offensive efficiency. Auburn protects the rim, ranking 12th nationally with 5.1 blocks per game, and hounds the perimeter by allowing the fifth-lowest three-point percentage in the country.
Also in the Midwest, No. 5 Miami takes on No. 12 Drake. The Bulldogs are the oldest team in the NCAA Tournament 2023, with four starters 23 or older. The fifth, 20-year-old Tucker DeVries, is their best player and the MVC Player of the Year after averaging 19 points and 5.6 rebounds. Miami counters with the ACC Player of the Year, Isaiah Wong (16.2 points per game), and the Hurricanes are one of the best shooting teams, ranking 14th in field goal percentage (48.6%) and free throw percentage (77.6%).
The third matchup to watch is also in the Midwest Regional: No. 7 seed Texas A&M against No. 10 seed Penn State. The Nittany Lions were on the wrong side of the bubble in the middle of February, but they won five of their final six games during the regular season before advancing to the title game in the Big Ten Tournament. Senior guard Jalen Pickett leads Penn State with 17.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. He will face a formidable challenge in Texas A&M, which won eight of its final nine games before adding two wins in the SEC Tournament. Sophomore Wade Taylor IV has established himself as one of the best guards in the league, averaging 16.5 points and 4.0 assists per game. You can see how far all these teams go over at SportsLine.
