As the Mets prepare for Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS on Sunday night, Jeff McNeil played in his second Arizona Fall League rehab game in hopes of rejoining the team in LA and cracking the 26-man roster for the Championship Series.
McNeil followed up a 1-for-4 performance on Friday with a hit in five at-bats on Saturday, including an RBI single in the fifth inning.
The hit came after the 32-year-old fouled a pitch off of his left leg which appeared to shake him up. McNeil would stay in for the rest of the game.
In two games in the AFL, McNeil went 2-for-9 with a walk and saw the live pitching that the Mets wanted him to get. New York must now decide if it should carry the infielder/outfielder on the NLCS roster.
Rosters for both teams won’t be announced until Sunday, but if McNeil does make the cut it’ll be interesting to see in what capacity he plays and what corresponding move manager Carlos Mendoza makes.
