Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka suffered a suspected muscle injury during a 3-1 win over Azerbaijan last night, so Scotland international Billy Gilmour will likely start his first Serie A this weekend.
Napoli could lose their starting Regista Lobotka for a few weeks.
The 29-year-old was forced off the pitch at minute 83 of a Nations League game between his national team Slovakia and Azerbaijan on Monday.
Lobotka is heading back to Italy to undergo medical tests, but as reported by Il Mattino, if results confirm a muscle injury, then Scotland international Gilmour will likely start for the first time in Serie A this weekend against Empoli at the Stadio Castellani.
Gilmour joined his compatriot Scott McTominay at the Stadio Maradona last summer.
McTominay completed a €30.5m transfer from Manchester United, while Gilmour’s move from Brighton cost €14m.
Gilmour has already made five appearances across all competitions this season but only started one Coppa Italia game.
He has collected four Serie A appearances as a substitute, playing for just 21 minutes.
