As reported by Foot Mercato, Julien Stéphan went into Saturday’s game against Stade Brestois hanging by a thread. The report revealed that, in the event of a loss for Stade Rennais, Stéphan would likely leave his post.
It comes after a highly underwhelming start to the season. Rennes have just two wins in Ligue 1 and only one in their last seven games; they currently sit 12th in the table. However, Rennes salvaged a late point against Brest, thanks to Jota’s late equaliser in the Breton derby.
But amid the poor run of form and the hierarchal changes at the club, Stéphan’s position is far from secure. The away fans at the Stade Francis-Le Blé called for Stéphan to resign after the draw and, according to L’Équipe, former Olympique de Marseille manager Igor Tudor is being lined up as a potential successor by Frederic Massara.
The Croatian has been out of work since his short stint at Lazio came to an abrupt end earlier this year.
