In a truly head-scratching moment of the first inning of Tuesday night’s tile between the Yankees and Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series, a couple of “fans” inserted themselves into the game by way of fan interference.
Gleyber Torres led off the first inning with a fly ball into foul territory along the right-field line. Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts hopped against the wall and caught it. However, when his arm went over the top of the wall, a spectator grabbed Betts’ arm and attempted to pry the ball out of his glove. Another “fan” tried to help by holding back Betts’ non-glove hand.
The umpires correctly called Torres out and the spectator was ejected from the game. Ticket prices for Game 4 are easily $1000, if not more.
Ironically, Torres had a potential home run taken from him in Game 1 at Los Angeles. A Dodgers fan reached over the left-center field wall to grab a drive from Torres. Torres was awarded second in the eventual Yankees loss.
