Vasily Ponomarev Activated From Injured Non-Roster, Assigned To Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated forward Vasily Ponomarev from injured non-roster and sent him to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced Thursday.

Ponomarev, who was acquired by the Penguins in the Jake Guentzel trade, injured his left shoulder during the pre-season.

Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Ponomarev saw time with the Carolina Hurricanes, Tuscon Roadrunners, Chicago Wolves and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year. With the Hurricanes, he collected two points in two games. In a combined 45 AHL regular season games, he put up nine goals and 30 points.

With Ponomarev set to make his season debut soon, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton are getting another solid player to add to their lineup. Currently sitting in tenth across the entire AHL, they’ve been able to come together as a team and Ponomarev should help add to that.
