Luke Kunin threw a hard pass from the right wing to Smith’s backhand in the far slot. Smith used a quick release to beat Blackhawks goalie Petr Mrazek short-side over his blocker.
It took Smith nine games to reach his first goal and NHL point.
Smith added a second goal in the second period with a terrific shot over Mrazek’s blocker.
