On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins traded 35-year-old Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals.
After spending six years in Montreal from 2010 to 2016, the former Canadiens forward played seven seasons with the Capitals, winning the Stanley Cup in 2018.
Initially drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 2017, he played seven games with the organization before being included in the Jaroslav Halak trade in June 2010.
With Montreal, Eller scored 71 goals and 154 points in 435 games. In 2016, the Canadiens traded him to Washington for two draft picks.
During his seven seasons with the Capitals, he scored 87 goals and 208 points in 488 games, the most productive stretch of his 16-year NHL career.

As a free agent in July 2023, Eller signed with the Penguins on a two-year deal worth $4.9 million. On Tuesday, Pittsburgh acquired two draft picks for Eller, who played his 1,000th NHL game in 2023-24.
Now with the Capitals, he has a front-row seat to Alex Ovechkin’s quest for 894 goals while reteaming with John Carlson and Tom Wilson, a couple of players who remain with the club from the 2018 championship season.
