The Mets announced on Monday morning that the club has signed outfielder Rafael Ortega, along with infielder Donovan Walton, to minor league contracts with an invitation to 2025 spring training.
Ortega, a left-handed hitting outfielder, played 47 games with the Mets in 2023, slashing .219/.341/.272 with one home run and eight RBI.
The 33-year-old has played parts of eight seasons in the majors, with a career slash line of .245/.322/.349 to go along with 22 home runs, 110 RBI, 140 runs scored, and 49 stolen bases.
A versatile defender, Ortega can play all three outfield spots, making him a nice depth piece.
