Rangers rookie Brett Berard will miss Monday night’s game against the rival Devils due to an upper-body injury.
Berard was forced to leave Saturday afternoon’s win over the Canadiens after taking a tough high hit along the boards from Montreal’s Kirby Dach midway through the third period, but he was able to return for his next shift with no issue.
The youngster was sidelined to Monday’s morning skate and he’s being viewed as day-to-day.
The injury couldn’t come at a worse time for Berard and the struggling Rangers, as he has stepped up and provided a nice spark on both ends of the ice when they’ve needed it most following his call-up from Hartford last week.
He was able to carry over the momentum from his strong start to the season down in the AHL, recording a goal and assist over his first three pro games.
It remains to be seen exactly how long he’ll be out with the injury, but the 22-year-old winger certainly made a strong case to stick in the Rangers’ lineup when he is back healthy and ready to roll.
