The Vancouver Canucks have recalled defenseman Mark Friedman from the Abbotsford Canucks, it was announced Thursday.
Drafted in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, Friedman has split time between the NHL and AHL this season. In two games with Vancouver, he has been held pointless but has collected four points in eight games with Abbotsford.
Having joined the Canucks organization last season, Friedman has played in 90 career NHL regular season games with the Canucks, Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. Over that span, he has four goals and nine assists for 13 points.
Before making the jump to the pros at the end of the 2016-17 season, Friedman played parts of three seasons at Bowling Green.
With Friedman being recalled by the Canucks, he could have the chance to play a depth role for the team. He has proven he can contribute when called upon and is more than capable of handling his own defensively.
