On his most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman proposed a massive hypothetical blockbuster trade between the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
Friedman brought up the possibility of the Sabres trading Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Elias Pettersson. However, it is crucial to note that Friedman stressed that this was just an idea he came up and not something the Sabres and Canucks are believed to be discussing.
Still, this would be gigantic trade between the two clubs if it ever came to fruition. The Canucks would land a young top-six center and a young top-pairing defenseman, while the Sabres would acquire a legitimate superstar for their first-line center spot.
However, as Friedman’s cohost Kyle Bukauskas argued, it’s highly likely that the Canucks would reject that offer if it was ever presented. Friedman also said that Vancouver would be the team more likely to say no between the two.
With the Canucks in win-now mode, it would be shocking if they parted ways with one of their superstars, even if Cozens and Byram are very good players. However, if this deal ever occurred, it would undoubtedly be a franchise-altering move for both clubs.
