The St. Louis Blues have traded defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday for future considerations:
Joseph, who spent the first four years of his career with the Penguins, signed a one-year, $950,000 on July 2, not long after acquiring older brother, Mathieu Joseph, from the Ottawa Senators for future considerations.
P.O. Joseph will be reunited with a group he’s quite familiar with; he’s played 147 games with the Penguins and has 37 points (eight goals, 29 assists).
The younger Joseph, 25, played in 23 games for the Blues this season and had two assists, but with the return of Philip Broberg from injury, the addition of Cam Fowler to the lineup in recent days, and a surge in play from Scott Perunovich, the left side of the defensive cupboard was getting crowded and playing time would have been tough for Joseph, who last played Saturday in a 2-1 overtime loss against the Dallas Stars; he played just 7:52 in the game.
