Being the son of a famous athlete has a lot of perks, like traveling the world to see your dad compete, meeting celebrities and other athletes, and if you are Charlie Woods, the son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, getting to play in the PNC Championship in Orlando this weekend.
You can also add to that list having access to prototype and yet-to-be-released golf equipment.
On Friday, Charlie played in the pro-am at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club using a new TaylorMade Qi35 LS driver. About two weeks ago, the club was added to the USGA’s List of Conforming Driver Heads, but it is not yet available in stores.
Last week at the Grant Thornton Invitational, the world’s No. 1 women’s player, Nelly Korda, used the TaylorMade Qi35 Max driver, which is also still not available to the public. Then, on Tuesday during “The Showdown,” Rory McIlroy also played with a Qi35 driver when he partnered with Scottie Scheffler to defeat Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods played on Friday using the same TaylorMade Qi10 driver that he used during the 2024 season. Golfweek senior writer Adam Schupak walked with Tiger and Charlie Woods as they played in the event’s pro-am on Friday and spoke with Tiger’s close friend, Rob McNamara, who told Schupak that Tiger hadn’t had enough time to test the Qi35 yet.
