Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s WWE News Roundup, where we bring you the biggest stories of the day in the world of wrestling.
Today’s edition is stacked, thanks to an eventful NXT. The fallout from Monday Night RAW’s debut on Netflix has trickled over to the developmental brand, as The Rock made an appearance. That wasn’t all, though, as we saw a few big title changes.
Meanwhile, Hulk Hogan’s alleged reaction to getting booed on RAW has been revealed and a WWE legend has confirmed he will never wrestle again. So, let’s get right into today’s stories!
#1. WWE NXT New Year’s Evil Results
Last night’s NXT New Year’s Evil special featured a lot of huge moments, including Trick Williams losing his NXT Championship. The Rock was there as well, addressing his supposed babyface turn on WWE RAW. Here is a rundown of the results:
- Giulia defeated Roxanne Perez (c) to win the NXT Women’s Championship.
- Stephanie Vaquer defeated Cora Jade, Kelani Jordan & Lola Vice to become the No.1 Contender to the Women’s North American Championship.
- Gigi Dolin, Shotzi & Tatum Paxley defeated Fatal Influence in a six-woman Tag Team Match.
- The Rock confronted Ethan Page backstage after he was arguing with NXT General Manager Ava.
- Lexis King defeated Charlie Dempsey (c) to win the NXT Heritage Cup.
- Oba Femi defeated Trick Williams (c) & Eddy Thorpe to win the NXT Championship.
- The Rock came out and took a shot at the fans who complained he was too nice to Cody Rhodes on RAW, as the two of them shared a hug. He reminded everyone that he was The Final Boss and was 20 steps ahead of anyone.
It remains to be seen what The Rock’s supposed plan is, and when The Final Boss will make his WWE return.
#2. Hulk Hogan’s alleged reaction to getting booed on WWE RAW
The Netflix premiere of WWE RAW was a mixed bag, with one of the biggest negatives being Hulk Hogan’s appearance. He was mercilessly booed out of the Intuit Dome by the Los Angeles crowd, in a moment that will live in infamy.
Sources close to the situation informed Sportskeeda’s Dr. Chris Featherstone that Hogan believes the reaction he received was due to political influence. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer wasn’t shocked by the reaction, although he allegedly “thought it would be 50/50.”
Dr. Featherstone was also informed that Hulk Hogan may have an increased level of mindfulness over which cities he chooses to appear live in front of, to promote his brand. This is largely because international fans might not be familiar with his backlash and the boos do not reflect his global perception.
#3. Ric Flair confirms he will never wrestle again
Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has been flirting with a return to the ring at the age of 75, having claimed that he has one more match in him. However, The Nature Boy recently confirmed that despite that, he will never wrestle again.
Over two years on from his final in-ring match, Flair tweeted the confirmation on his official X/Twitter handle. The 1992 Royal Rumble winner also called out Bronson Reed, stating that the Australian star couldn’t ‘Tsunami’ him on his best day:
“No Return To The Ring Ever! Thankful For The Great Health And The Conditioning That Would Allow Me To. @BRONSONISHERE Couldn’t Tsunami Me On His Best Day,” tweeted Ric Flair.
Reed has since responded to Ric Flair, claiming that Triple H “should come get his big.”
