Faces off the field gives a deeper look into the thoughts and lives of Austin-area high school student-athletes. Today we feature Vandegrift golfer Addison Bandelier, a sophomore who’s keeping competitive golf in the family. She was part of the Vipers’ state championship team last spring.
All about Addison: There’s always music around
Tell something about you that most people don’t know.
I love listening to music all the time during school. When I golf at home, I always have my earbuds in.
If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Italy, because of the countryside. We have a painting in our home that is my mother’s favorite, and I would love to see it in person.
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
I want to play college golf and pursue the career of a veterinarian or possibly play golf professionally.
Winning state: ‘As good as it gets’
What has been your favorite golfing memory at Vandegrift?
My favorite golfing memory at Vandy is winning state my freshman year. It was something that my team and I had worked for all year, and when they allowed me to be the one to accept the trophy, it just created such a special moment for me. Winning state as a freshman is as good as it gets.
You have an older brother, Jaxon, who has had a lot of success playing golf.
My relationship with Jaxon is a pretty normal sibling dynamic. We are both extremely competitive on and off the golf course, but I can’t stress enough how big of a part he played in my golf journey. Every day I get to see his work ethic, his passion for the game, and that eventually inspired me to look at the game in a different light. I’m so proud of all that he has accomplished, and I hope someday people will look at me not just as his little sister, but as a respected competitor as well.
Dream dinner: Finding inspiration with Ben Hogan and Tom Kite
If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, who would they be?
I would choose Max Verstappen, Jesus Christ, Ben Hogan and Tom Kite.
Why did you pick Ben Hogan?
Ben Hogan is an incredible inspiration considering what he did after his injury (in a car accident in 1949). I want to learn how he had the strength to do that.
