WWE expresses concern for Cody Rhodes and the future of his Undisputed title reign

Cody Rhodes is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion and has been constantly praised as the quarterback of the Stamford-based promotion. The American Nightmare has been embroiled in a high-stakes rivalry against Kevin Owens for months. Both stars are booked to lock horns in a ladder match at the Royal Rumble 2025. Recently, WWE themselves have expressed concern regarding Rhodes’ title reign.

Paul Heyman opened the latest edition of SmackDown, where The Wiseman declared Roman Reigns as The Only Tribal Chief. He revealed that The OTC is now focused on recapturing the Undisputed WWE Championship that he lost to Cody Rhodes last year at WrestleMania 40. To earn his shot at the title, Reigns will be officially entering the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match.

WWE also posted the clip of Paul Heyman’s announcement from SmackDown on their official Instagram account, issuing a warning to Cody Rhodes.

“The American Nightmare better hold on tight to his title because Roman Reigns is coming for it!” wrote the official WWE IG Page.

Paul Heyman called out Cody Rhodes after announcing Roman Reigns for the 2025 Royal Rumble. The 39-year-old came out, but before he could say anything. Kevin Owens interrupted and disrespected the champion.

Also, in the main event, Owens took Rhodes out of his tag team match against Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga while mirroring the segment during the kick-off, and the arch-rivals got engaged in a brawl.

While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Smack Talk, wrestling legend Bill Apter, noted that Owens interrupting Cody Rhodes was getting predictable and “out of hand.”

“Kevin Owens disrupting everything that Cody Rhodes is involved with is getting a little out of hand now. Anytime Cody comes in, you know Kevin Owens is gonna be there. I kinda didn’t want to see him at that particular point. I would have liked them to have just let it alone with the challenge, accept it, then go into the match, whatever it is,” said Apter.

It will be interesting to see how the Rhodes-Owens saga will unfold in the coming weeks, with the Royal Rumble on the horizon.
