Southern California was ravaged by numerous wildfires recently, displacing thousands of people and altering the landscape forever. The Los Angeles Fire Department through bravery and hard work did everything they could to prevent further fire expansion while protecting properities, while saving lives and animals.
As the Los Angeles Kings return home for a Monday night matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the ice crew at Crypto.com Arena altered the center ice logo by replacing the iconic Kings logo with the LAFD logo to honor the department’s men and women.
When the fire initially broke out, the Kings had a game against the Calgary Flames postponed, while the team hit the road for a pre-planned five game road trip through Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest.
They would go 2-3-0 on the trip, watching the Edmonton Oilers leapfrog them in the Pacific Division. However, the Kings are back on ice with the spirit of the LAFD behind them as they face the Penguins on Monday and the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.
“Anything we can do to show our support, it’s inspiring to us.”
Sidney Crosby talked this morning about honoring the Los Angeles firefighters (and how he wanted to become a firefighter himself).

At the morning skate today, Pittsburgh players were wearing LAFD hats and every player wore a sticker on their helmets, following a tradition that started with the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 10.
The puck drops for the Penguins and Kings at 10:30 p.m. ET.
