The Ottawa Senators have reportedly placed winger Cole Reinhardt on waivers. That’s according to report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and presumably, the plan is send Reinhardt down to Belleville.
Due to NHL injuries up front, Reinhardt has come up and played 12 games in Ottawa this season, but has been out of the lineup since January 11th when he was injured against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The upper body injury may have occurred on a hard awkward fall he took after a slew foot from Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic during a stoppage in play.
Reinhardt’s placement today indicates he’s now healthy (the rules say injured players can’t be waived), but a number of Sens forwards like David Perron and Michael Amadio have now returned from injury, so there’s no room on the roster.
Reinhardt signed a one year, two-way extension with the Senators worth $775,000. He’s one of six players from a very lucrative 2020 NHL Draft to suit up for the Senators this season, and he’s been a pretty solid option in the bottom six, playing with energy and making solid decisions.
Back in November, playing in Ottawa against his hometown Flames, the Calgary native scored his first NHL goal.
Reinhardt has a goal and an assist in 12 games, getting 8:10 of ice time per game. His return will be welcomed in Belleville, where he was the club’s top scorer earlier this season with 16 points in 13 games.
