The Seattle Kraken have recalled forward Gustav Olofsson from the Coachella Valley Firebirds on an emergency basis.
The 30-year-old defenseman has spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Firebirds in the AHL, scoring two goals and 11 points in 34 games.
Throughout his career, Olofsson has played 63 NHL games, recording 11 assists. Four of the 63 games Olofsson has played in the NHL have come with the Kraken. The 6’3, left-handed defenseman was drafted in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NHL draft but hasn’t been able to become a full-time NHLer.
The reason for the emergency basis call-up is unknown but currently, Ryker Evans is day-to-day and missed the Kraken’s most recent game against the San Jose Sharks. The move can purely be an insurance move or the Kraken could be dealing with another injury or illness on the backend. All six defensemen who played against the Sharks on Thursday participated in today’s practice.
The Kraken host the Calgary Flames on Sunday and what HC Dan Bylsma elects to do with the lineup will be fascinating.
