It’s transfer deadline day as Premier League clubs face a frantic few hours to complete last-minute deals before 11pm tonight.
There’s already been one huge twist today as Mathys Tel has reversed his decision not to join Tottenham. The Bayern Munich forward has flown to England and is undergoing a medical ahead of a loan move to the north London club, which will now have an option to buy at the behest of Spurs.
The young Frenchman had reportedly been the target of both Manchester United – who were on the hunt for a new forward after Marcus Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan but look set to stand pat for financial reasons – and Arsenal, who had not given up hope of signing him.
Elsewhere, Manchester City’s flaws were exposed by Arsenal in a 5-1 defeat yesterday and Pep Guardiola’s side look set to sign defensive midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Porto for around £50m as a Rodri replacement. Chelsea could still see some action too, with Ben Chilwell and Joao Felix among the players who may depart after Carney Chukwuemeka already did to Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea have been linked with Alejandro Garnacho throughout the window and while the 20-year-old Manchester United winger looks unlikely to follow Rashford out of the door, Red Devils left-back Tyrell Malacia is set to sign on loan for PSV as we tick towards tonight’s 11pm deadline. Joao Felix lands in Italy for for AC Milan move
22:22 , Luke Baker
Video has emerged of Joao Felix at Milan airport as he prepares to seal his move to AC Milan.
He’s largely been an entirely pointless signing by Chelsea having signed a seven-year contract when signing from Atletico Madrid in a £45m deal last August.
Milan are paying his wages and a £5m loan fee until the end of the season. Official confirmation imminent.
Willian agrees deal in principle with Fulham
22:13 , Luke Baker
The slightly left-field news of 36-year-old Willian returning to Fulham is just about over the line.
Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth is reporting that the Cottagers have agreed a deal in principle to re-sign the Brazilian forward after he was released by Olympiakos at the end of December.
As he’s a free agent, he’s not subject to the same 11pm deadline as players still at their clubs, so a formal announcement is expected tomorrow.
DONE DEAL! Rob Holding leaves Crystal Palace
22:04 , Luke Baker
Rob Holding has completed his loan move to Sheffield United from Crystal Palace.
Ex-Arsenal centre-back Holding has moved to Bramall Lane in a deal until the end of the season, where he will try to help the Blades earn promotion back to the Premier League.
Holding said: “It’s been a long day but it is well worth it, I’m happy to be here. I had a quick word with the gaffer and I’m excited with the project he’s got going on here, it is a good environment to be in.
“It is a fresh start, I’m looking for a bit of consistency with games and see what happens in the second half of the season.”

Ben Chilwell closing in on Crystal Palace move
21:48 , Luke Baker
Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell is closing in on his loan move to Crystal Palace until the end of the season, with The Independent’s Chief Football Writer Miguel Delaney saying the move is “all but done”.
The deal is a straight loan, with no option or obligation to buy, and should be official imminently.
Fulham eyeing shock Willian return
21:39 , Luke Baker
He’s the man who just can’t stay away. Willian, at the age of 104, could be returning to the Premier League with Fulham.
I exaggerate a little bit, he’s only 36, but he left Fulham in the summer to join Olympiakos and it appeared his Premier League career was over. He left Olympiakos in December and now the Cottagers appear set to bring him back to add depth to their squad.
Remarkable scenes and surely a divisive at best move among the Fulham fanbase in terms of the ambition (or lack thereof) it shows.
Mathys Tel deal to include option to buy
21:28 , Luke Baker
An update on the Mathys Tel deal. The Bayern Munich youngster had an abrupt change of heart earlier today, choosing to join Tottenham on loan having earlier rejected them.
As reported by Dan Kilpatrick of Evening Standard, Spurs have pushed for the deal to include an option to buy, which Bayern have agreed to. Earlier it was thought it would just be a straight loan.
Tel is in London ahead of the move being sealed before the 11pm deadline.
DONE DEAL! Harrison Armstong signs new Everton contract and loaned out
20:59 , Richard Jolly, Senior Football Correspondent
Everton have given Harrison Armstrong a new three-and-a-half-year deal and loaned him to Championship strugglers Derby for the rest of the season.
The 18-year-old midfielder was the star of Everton’s lone game under Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman, the FA Cup win over Peterborough.
Nico Gonzalez on the brink of Man City move
20:44 , Luke Baker
Man City have been the busiest Premier League team in this transfer window and they’re adding one more player before all is said and done.
They’ve been trying to replace Rodri ever since his ACL injury earlier in the season and have settled on Porto’s defensive midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Gonzalez will be signed on a £50m deal. He has been undergoing a medical in Portugal and that seems to have gone by the book, so official confirmation will be coming shortly.
DONE DEAL! Lloyd Kelly leaves Newcastle for Juventus
20:34 , Luke Baker
Former Bournemouth man Lloyd Kelly is swapping one set of black and whites for another as he’s left Newcastle for Juventus.
Newcastle have confirmed that defender Kelly has completed a loan move to Juventus, subject to international clearance, and the Italian side have an obligation to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Not a bad move for the 26-year-old, who wasn’t getting a ton of playing time at St James’ Park.

Axel Disasi earns Aston Villa move
20:20 , Luke Baker
The Axel Disasi saga looks set to reach its conclusion as the Chelsea defender will be heading on loan to Aston Villa.
Disasi had been heavily linked with Spurs, who are in dire need of a centre-back given their extensive injuries, but the 26-year-old had no desire to join Ange Postecoglou’s men.
Villa have matched the £5m loan fee offered by Spurs and the deal is a move until the end of the season with his salary covered. There is no buy option included.
Official confirmation expected shortly.
DONE DEAL! Iheanacho joins Middlesbrough
20:14 , Luke Baker
Championship promotion chasers Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla on loan until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old former Leicester striker was presented to the Boro fans ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Sunderland this evening.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla from Leicester in the summer but only started five league games.
DONE DEAL! Carney Chukwuemeka joins Dortmund from Chelsea
20:03 , Luke Baker
More movement at Chelsea and this one is now confirmed, with midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka officially joining Borussia Dortmund on loan from the Blues.
The Bundesliga side also have an option to sign the 21-year-old permanently at the end of his loan spell.
Chukwuemeka, who has played 37 Premier League games, said: “I’m really excited and blessed to be here and represent this big club. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at Signal Iduna Park and bring success to us all.”
Chelsea making another signing
19:56 , Luke Baker
Chelsea are never backward when it comes to bolstering their squad and Mathis Amougou looks set to sign.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that they have worked out a €15m package for midfielder Amougou with St Etienne.
It’s a long-term deal for the 19-year-old and while he was linked with heading to another of Todd Boehly’s teams, Strasbourg, it’s Chelsea where he’ll ultimately go.
Jeffrey Schlupp headed to Celtic
19:46 , Luke Baker

Update on Man Utd’s deadline day plans
19:21 , Luke Baker
The Independent’s Senior Football Correspondent Richard Jolly reports that no further incomings are expected for Manchester United tonight.
That means there will be no striker signed, which will surely frustrate Red Devils fans.
United have little leeway within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and would rather give themselves more scope to spend in the summer.
DONE DEAL! Marco Asensio joins Aston Villa
19:11 , Luke Baker
A move we’ve been expecting confirmation of for a while, Marco Asensio has joined Aston Villa on loan from PSG.
The three-time Champions League winner joins until the end of the season.
Asensio adds another attacking option to Unai Emery’s side after they captured Marcus Rashford from Man Utd on loan.

However, negotiations stalled on Friday with Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United also interested in France international Tel – but he is now set to link up with Tottenham, although the exact structure of the deal is still to be finalised.

For his part, Nkunku is happy at Chelsea and never had the intention of leaving.

Aston Villa in for Joao Felix?
10:16 , Mike Jones
Apparently so, according to Villa’s transfer guru Monchi. He was on Spanish TV station Cope last night and has confirmed there is interest in the Chelsea player, as well as PSG’s Marco Asensio.
“They are similar players, who Unai Emery likes. Asensio was tried by Aston Villa before I arrived. Last summer we were close to Joao. Neither of them are easy because in terms of salary and cost they are not simple.
“If there is a coach in world football who recovers players, it is Unai Emery. He has been able to recover talents. Joao Felix has talent, and it is only a matter of finding the right environment to bring out the best version of himself. And Unai works very, very well on that.”
