Tiger Woods’ long-awaited PGA Tour debut for 2025 will have to wait a little longer.
On Monday, Woods announced on social media that he would not be able to play in this week’s Genesis Invitational, the tournament Woods and his foundation hosts. Woods said he is “just not ready,” and hopes to be at Torrey Pines for the PGA Tour event, which begins Thursday. The event has been held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades but was moved to the course outside San Diego due to the Los Angeles wild fires that have ravaged the area. Woods said the tournament will raise money for those impacted by the fires.
I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.

Woods announced on social media last week the death of his mother, Kultida, 78, who was seen recently supporting her son at a TGL event. Later in the week, Woods announced he would make his first appearance on the PGA Tour since last year’s British Open where he missed the cut. He underwent back surgery in September but was able to play with his son, Charlie, in December’s PNC Championship in Orlando. They finished second to Bernhard and Jason Langer.
Woods also has played twice in the new TGL league, based out of the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, started by himself and Rory McIlroy. He is scheduled to play again in a TGL match on Feb. 18.
In his Monday post, Woods said, “I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.”
Meanwhile, Woods played golf with President Donald Trump on Sunday before Trump hosted a Super Bowl party at Mar-a-Lago and flew to New Orleans to attend Super Bowl 59. The White House pool report confirmed that Trump met up with Tiger and Charlie for a round of golf at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach.
A year ago at the Genesis, Woods withdrew after hitting his tee shot on the seventh hole of the second round. He had started feeling ill on the night after the first round and was worse when he awoke the next morning. However, he still attempted to play the second round before stopping after feeling dizzy and dehydrated.
More to come on this developing story.
