Almost 15 years to the day from when Sidney Crosby scored the Golden Goal for Canada in the 2010 Winter Olympics, Connor McDavid grabbed the torch and scored the decisive overtime goal to win the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Both games were 3-2 wins in overtime, with Crosby scoring at 7:40 and McDavid taking only 38 seconds longer.
It was high drama and capped an incredible nine days of best-on-best hockey. It was more than anyone ever expected, and the players from all four countries need to be given enormous amounts of credit for making this into a must-watch event. They’ve been asking for this for a decade and when they got it, they delivered in an enormous way.
If the players want something like this every two years, give it to them, because they clearly know what they’re talking about when it comes to this stuff.
