Jeeno Thitikul’s scoring average on the LPGA dating back to the FM Championship in late August is an eye-popping 67.4. She’s a combined 129 under par over her last 29 rounds, with 24 of those rounds in the 60s.
On Friday in Thailand, Thitikul carded an 8-under 64 to vault into a share of third with compatriot Moriya Jutanugarn at 12 under. The two trail Japanese rookie Akie Iwai by three strokes at the Honda LPGA Thailand. American Angel Yin sits alone in second, two shots back, at Siam Country Club in Pattaya.
Thitikul, who celebrated her 22nd birthday on Feb. 20, said she planned to go back to the hotel and get to sleep right away.
Last season, Thitikul led the tour in putts per green in regulation and was second in strokes gained putting.
She was surprised to learn that about her game, despite having only 26 putts in her second round.
“Did I? Did I really?” she asked. “I just still feel like I’m not the best, to be honest. It’s always room to improve. It doesn’t work really well this week in, week out for sure, what we have to do is just improve it.”
A four-time winner on the LPGA, Thitikul currently ranks No. 2 behind Nelly Korda in the Rolex Rankings. She won last week’s PIF Saudi Ladies International for her fifth career title on the Ladies European Tour.
