Brennan Othmann Is Honored To Be Back With Rangers

Brennan Othmann will likely make his season debut with the New York Rangers on Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.

The Rangers called up Othmann on Monday from The Hartford Wolf Pack of The American Hockey League.

While he didn’t officially confirm he’ll be in the lineup tonight, based on Tuesday’s morning skate, all indications are that he’ll be in the lineup.

The 22-year-old feels proud that the Rangers in-trusted him to be with the team as they are in the heat of an intense playoff push where every game is important.

“It’s exciting for sure,” Othmann said. “To be able to know that the staff has that kind of trust in me to come in the lineup and to be a part of this run, it’s an honor. I’m hoping I can get in the lineup and play my game.”

This wasn’t necessarily an expected call-up. Othmann was ready to play for the Wolf Pack and then suddenly, he’s back with the Rangers, potentially getting ready to play in a Rangers Vs. Islanders rivalry matchup.

“I think that’s just part of being a pro hockey player at times,” Othmann said on his sudden call-up. “In all sports you just gotta be ready at any given time and you don’t really know what’s going on. One hour you could be somewhere and the next hour you could be somewhere else… You kind of just have to take each hour-by-hour with caution and basically wait to hear for a call.”

Why did the Rangers decide to call up Othmann now?

Chris Kreider is day-to-day with an apparent upper-body injury and trending toward sitting out against the Islanders.

Othmann’s recent hot stretch has caught the eye of the Rangers’ management and coaching staff. The young forward has scored nine goals in his last 13 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, which led to this opportunity in the NHL.

“As he’s come back and gotten more ice time, more gameshape, gotten more minutes, I think his game has produced and has gotten better,” Peter Laviolette said. “With questions up here he gets recalled and an opportunity possibly.”

Tonight could be the start of a long stint for Othmann with the Blueshirts.
