The 2025 Players Championship is here. It’s the flagship event for the PGA Tour, with 144 players vying for a $4.5 million first-place prize out of a $25 million total purse, each the largest on the PGA Tour.
Tiger Woods is not playing, it was confirmed last Friday after the tournament’s entry deadline.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is in the field. The two-time defending champion is looking to join Jack Nicklaus (1974, 1976, 1978) as the only three-time winners of the Players. He’s also trying to become the first golfer to win the same PGA Tour event three years in a row. Steve Stricker was the last to do that at the John Deere Classic from 2009 to 2011.
Adam Scott is playing the Players for a 23rd time, the most of anyone in the field in 2025.
Matt Kuchar and Justin Rose will each tee it up at TPC Sawgrass for a 20th time.
Meanwhile, there are 24 golfers set to tackle the Players Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for the first time.
