Tottenham were so bad at the weekend that their players have given their fans their money back. After a 6-1 thrashing away to Newcastle, travelling Spurs fans have been reimbursed for their match tickets.
Tottenham were dealt a severe blow by the Magpies at the weekend. The home side ran roughshod over a London side who are having one of their worst seasons in recent years.
A 6-1 drubbing, 5-0 after 21 minutes, led to some stark images, including Tottenham fans leaving St James’ Park after less than half an hour’s play.
Further uncertainty
The humiliation led to another managerial sacking announced with unusual harshness and after a few hours of great uncertainty, the players of the London team have decided to issue a statement apologising and going a step further.
The squad will pay out of pocket for the tickets of the fans who travelled to cheer on the team in Newcastle.
“As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. It wasn’t good enough. We know words aren’t enough in situations like this but a defeat like this hurts,” read a statement from the Spurs players.
“We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James’ Park.
“We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us.”
Big tests coming
The players will have a chance to atone on the pitch in front of a home crowd on Thursday when Manchester United come to town.
That is followed by a massive trip to Anfield on Sunday to take on a Liverpool side who are breathing down their necks.
