45 years ago, current Mets manager Buck Showalter was a Yankees minor-leaguer in his first spring training at the same time catcher Thurman Munson was the Yankees captain. On Tuesday night, Buck said “it was quite an honor”. to receive the Thurman Munson Award at the annual event honoring the legendary backstop. He remembers hearing the tragic news of Munson’s passing in August of 1979 and how if affected the lives of so many people. Shifting gears, he touches on this year’s Mets catchers, specifically Francisco Alvarez and how his defense will a play a big part in his progression. Buck is also looking forward to taking another shot at the postseason in his second year at the helm.
