Correa has ‘no hard feelings’ after failed Giants, Mets deals originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Now that the Carlos Correa saga officially has come to an end with the star shortstop signing with the Minnesota Twins, Correa is moving past it all.
In an exclusive interview with The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the 28-year-old was asked if he held any grudges toward the Giants and New York Mets after his agreements with both teams unfurled.
“There’s no hard feelings toward both (the Giants’ and Mets’) organizations,” Correa told The Athletic. “There’s nothing but respect for them. Doctors have differences of opinion. That’s fine.
“But God took me here to the Minnesota Twins. I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity.”
Correa’s journey this offseason has been well-documented, beginning with him agreeing to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the Giants. After San Francisco raised concerns regarding Correa’s ankle, the shortstop agreed to terms on a 12-year, $315 million deal with the Mets.
New York also had the same concerns regarding Correa’s ankle and the shortstop’s agent, Scott Boras reportedly was “frustrated” the Giants and Mets consulted the same doctor. Eventually, the Twins swooped in and re-signed him to a six-year, $200 million contract with various incentives.
With the arduous saga in the books, Correa says the experience has allowed him to put things into “perspective.”
“You focus on the things that matter most,” Correa said. “One thing I learned is that I love my family, I love the support system I have around me. I have a small circle I can trust and that is loyal.
“At the end of the day, God put me in the right spot.”
